We have great clients, something I am sure we do not tell them enough when we are buried in the day to day details of managing their IT, so we always look forward to our annual Client Appreciation Event. And this year did not disappoint! We only hope everyone who attended feels the same way. Looking at the pictures the photographer sent over makes me think they may have. You can find the pictures from the event, and the previous one, on our Facebook page here.
Like true Vancouverites, we didn’t let the cooler weather and intermittent rain stop us from having a great time, but then, how could you not with live music, wine and good conversation? Our favourite part, aside from getting to spend time with such excellent people of course, was the fire-pits. You can definitely expect to see them next year. There were even s’mores for the more daring.
While preparing for this year’s event, we couldn’t help but reflect on how much has changed in the past year. Starting with the brand launch at last year’s event, we’ve continued to focus and refine who we are and what we do. We know we are meant to say this, but we truly feel as if our purpose and values embody who we aspire to be and how we want to interact with our clients, each other and the community at large. It’s an ongoing process, but one we are committed to continuing to work out, something that has been at once challenging and immensely rewarding.
We’ve also grown, with new clients and new team members joining us, all of whom are wonderful. We’ve even outgrown our office space and are working to move to a larger office in the coming year. It’s exciting times at Scout and we’re looking forward to seeing what the coming year will bring!
We believe strongly in giving back to the community we are a part of, so every year at our Client Appreciation Event we like to take some time to introduce an organisation that is doing amazing things in the community that we would like to support. This year, we were very excited to introduce Youth Unlimited – an organisation that works with at risk youth in the Greater Vancouver Area – and their amazing Street Life Program. Street Life is a mobile youth center based in East Vancouver for at risk youth that runs out of a retrofitted RV. They provide practical help for basic needs like food and clothing, and crucially, encouragement and support for safer and healthier life choices from committed volunteers and staff. Youth in this area are particularly vulnerable to gang recruitment, child prostitution, exploitation, homelessness and other street culture risks, and we want to help. We hope you do too.
To do so, Matt and our Network Engineer Kris, in partnership with Youth Unlimited, will be spending the night on the Street in the Downtown Eastside getting a small glimpse of what it is like for those youth every single night. They’ll start at the Street Life RV, then spend the rest of the night in the DTES, finishing at sunrise. Our goal is to raise $18,000 for Street Life, which would fund Street Life for six months. Please consider sponsoring Matt’s night on the street to support the amazing work Youth Unlimited is doing!
As an added bonus, the closer we get to our goal, the more realistic Matt and Kris’ experience will be. For example, we just reached $10,000 in donations, which means that during the night, they will be spending three hours in an alley by themselves with no phone and no snacks. If reach $14,000, we will swap out their warm jackets for a light one and their comfy shoes for canvas sneakers a size too small. Experiences that we will be documenting, including regular video check ins throughout the night.
